LCD TVs Good Points
Brightness
LCD have high brightness levels because of the powerful fluorescent back light used to illuminate the screen. This provides better vibrant pictures compared to a Plasma TV which makes an LCD TV the perfect partner for the PC, Playstation or Xbox games consoles. LCDs are also better at displaying animated pictures popular with kids DVDs.
Resolution
The new full HD format using 1080 lines is easier to accomplish on an LCD TV when it comes to the smaller screen sizes, this is because due to the size of the Plasma cell it is difficult to achieve full HD under a 50" screen size.
Lack of Screen burn
LCD TVs can cope with a lot brighter pictures without suffering the effects of screen burn, screen burn is the plague of the standard CRT and Plasma TV screens.
Weight
LCD TVs are a lot lighter than their equivalent Plasma sets, this makes hanging them on a wall particularly easy.
Power Consumption
With climate change a big concern the more energy efficient an appliance the better for the environment, LCD sets favour strongly compared to the high energy using Plasma sets.
LCD TVs Bad Points
Black Levels
LCD sets suffer with poor black levels due to a permanently illuminated back light, but as LCD screens improve the extra brightness and vibrant images mean the problems with dark black levels are not as much as a problem.
Screen Blur
LCD screens can struggle to respond to fast moving pictures which can create a smearing effect, giving the impression that the picture is blurred.
Screen Size
Although LCD screens are getting bigger, it is still cheaper and better to go for a PLasma when it comes to 50" screens and above.
